On many of our socket and switch ranges, you'll see the same finish offered with either a metal insert or a plastic insert. The 'insert' is the inner part of the faceplate immediately surrounding the switch or socket outlet itself — the metal or plastic refers to what that inner surround is made from, not the outer decorative plate.
Does the Insert Colour Affect How It Wires?
No — the insert is purely cosmetic. A white or black plastic insert and a metal insert both wire up in exactly the same way; the choice is entirely down to which look suits the room and the decorative plate finish.
Which Insert Should I Choose?
A metal insert (usually available in white or black) gives a more uniform, high-end look that matches the outer plate finish more closely. A plastic insert is a simpler, cost-effective option and is often the standard choice on entry-level ranges.
