Where Do I Need an IP44-Rated Socket or Switch?
UK wiring regulations (BS 7671) define zones around baths and showers where only accessories with a suitable IP rating can be installed. IP44 accessories are commonly required in bathrooms outside these immediate splash zones, and in other damp or exposed locations such as utility rooms.
Is IP44 the Same as IP65?
No — a higher second digit means greater protection against water. IP65 is fully protected against low-pressure water jets from any direction, offering more protection than IP44, and is typically specified for closer proximity to water or for outdoor use.
