A grid plate is a single faceplate that holds a number of individual switch or socket modules together under one plate, rather than each function needing its own separate plate. The modules — such as switches, dimmers, USB modules or blanks — click into a metal grid frame fitted behind the plate.
Why Use a Grid Plate Instead of Separate Plates?
Grid plates are commonly used where several functions are needed close together — for example, a kitchen island or a utility room with several switched circuits. Rather than fitting three or four separate 1-gang plates side by side, a single grid plate keeps everything under one neat faceplate.
How Many Modules Fit on a Grid Plate?
Grid plates are available in a range of sizes, typically from 1-gang up to 8-gang or more, and can mix different module types — for example, two switches and a socket module on the same plate.
Can I Buy the Grid Plate and Modules Separately?
Yes. The grid plate and frame are usually bought separately from the individual switch, socket or dimmer modules that click into it, which means you can build the exact combination you need.
